Do I Really Need a Bottom Drain?

Planning my pond but I got to these and I am wondering if it is really a necessity? anyone......

Is it a must if I have Koi? or other wildlife-Turtles?

I will leave this to someone else more suited--but I didnt do a bottom drain on mine and so far so good. But then again I dont get a lot of leaves or debris in my pond that could build up on bottom! Let us know what you decide and hopefully someone else can be more a help
